Can anyone tell me how to reset an ademco 6160 pad that is flashing
comm.failure. I am not hooked to a telephone line. the alarm was set
off, I reset the zones and am able use use the system but it is
flashing comm. failure. I installed this system myself and programed
it but my tech support has disapeared. I have a P20 panel. It will not
let me into the data field.

usually just turn arm it on and disarm it off one time and the trouble
should go away I think.

Chuck Norris thanks for the reply I have tried this several times I
can arm and disarm the system but it will not clear. with the user
code and off button it will reset zones affected but will not clear
the comm. failure and will not let me into the data field where it is
programed.

duh, I see it now..........P-20......would that be a vista 20p? If you
can remove the acct # and central station phone # from the programming
that should stop the comm failures. did you prog by keypad or software?

It is a vista 20p and it was programed by the keypad, also I do not
have any dialers connected to the system, I do have a test system but
will not let test work while the comm. failure flashing. Thanks guys

I'm not familiar with Ademco at all; however, most panels have a test
function whereby you can do a series of things at the keypad to trigger the
siren, all the LED's on the keypad and send its automatic test signal to the
station. This will usually clear things since it empties the buffer in doing
so...

There is another possibility. If the monitoring has been shut off and the
dialers in the panel have not been disabled, the panel will attempt to be
called until the number of attempts programmed have been exceeded, at which
point it will show a "failure to communicate" on the keypad...

In your case, since it is "local", you must find the process called "cancel
communications" to clear that . This usually involves knowing the installer
code; however, some panels allow you to do so with the master code (I
believe..) That should clear the trouble. But to ensure it doesn't happen
again after an alarm, you should disable the dialers, since your panel is
likely still attempting to call someone (ie: the CS receiver from a previous
owner's monitoring company)
